Description of course: Image-making for Illustrators
Projects develop a student's ability with digital tools and concepts. Traditional construction methods are integrated with digital tools including digital cameras and scanners. A sketch notebook represents 20% of the final grade.
Application: PhotoShop.
  •  Become adept using a WACOM tablet & pen.
  • Learn to use Adobe Photoshop software for creating images.
  • Work with digital cameras, downloading images into the computer, learning how to manipulate them.
  • Have a working knowledge of how to prep images for placement on a web site using Photoshop.
  • Obtain your own domain name and create your own private web site, using Dreamweaver for it's development.
  • A brief introduction into illustration animation using Flash will be offered.

From a work development point of view, we will hone your imaging skills and learn some of the more subtler aspects of manipulating images in Photoshop.
A strong emphasis will be placed on simulating environments that you are likely to face in the image-making industry. Assignments will be constructed so as to reflect this outlook.
Class interaction through the net
will be mandatory. We will learn how to effectively use discussion groups and websites to coordinate team projects.

Assignments.
For the first half of the course, assignments will be peppered throughout, usually expected to be completed within a week. Towards the middle of the semester, we'll decide on a final project which will be completed at the end of the course. This one's an important one. A large part of your grade will be determined by your ability to impress me on this final project. Notebooks will be looked at frequently.

Things to do for next class

1. You must have signed out a WACOM tablet from the Computer Store room before next class.

2. Make sure you bring two Iomega Zip disks for the next class session. Nothing so sad as losing all your work to the 'Click of Death' - an annoying shortcoming of  the Zip storage system; you can loose ALL the information on the disk - hence the need for a backup Zip disk. Nothing worse that having your data become vapor-ware.
Destruction of your work due to not backing it up will not be considered a valid excuse!

3. You are expected to keep a notebook. Bring it to every class.

4. Be prepared to obtain a web account. Bring your plastic next class and expect to spend about $8.95 for a one year Domain account  (cheap.)
5.
I'll be issuing everybody in the class a website. This website will be free for the duration of the class, plus an additional month. ( If you wish to continue using your website after the conclusion of this class, please come and see me.)
